Operations manager Operations Manager Reporting to: RegionalManager Hazmat Division: Hazmat position SUMMARY: As the Operations Manager based in Edmonton for the Hazmat Davison at QMLP, you will report to the Regional Manager of Hazmat and work within a team environment, demonstrating your initiative, drive in order to supervise staff, manage projects, develop business, and review technical documents, and other day to day work including managing budgets and reporting proposal work. RESPONSIBILITIES:- Ensure all work on the project is performed safely- activities are planned and performed in compliance with QMLP's Safety Management System principles and core functions - Plays an active role in the development of the safety culture on the project, safety policies and procedures and practice safe work habits - Provides leadership and motivation to the project and organizational team as well as subcontractors and subordinate personnel - Executes field construction activities in conformance with project drawings, specifications, schedules, cost estimates, procedures, quality requirements and safety standards - Manages and coordinates project assignments to superintendents and foreman - Ensure that personnel under his/her supervision, directly or indirectly, clearly understand their role, responsibilities, authority, and accountability within the assigned projects. - Manages, mentors, and motivates all personnel in abatement operations through the project manager, and foreman levels - Provides clear performance expectations - Assists with maintaining positive employee relations Project Planning- Develops or helps develop project scope of work, abatement approach, cost estimate, and schedules. - Reviews design documents and approach with regard to constructability and submits recommendations for change - May conduct pre-mobilization meetings when running own project Project Execution- Performs on-site management, supervision and coordination of all self-performed and subcontracted work - Controls project schedule and cost through the efficient use of sub-contractors and resources including manpower, materials, tools, and equipment. - Determines manpower levels to attain schedule milestones and monitors manpower levels and craft mixes to ensure conformance with the construction plan - Monitors productivity and cost and implements appropriate action to maintain maximum labor productivity and cost-effectiveness - Ensures daily and weekly short-range planning is communicated and executed down to the foreman/coordinator level. - Provide regular project status updates to the Project Manager and senior management on work safety, progress, cost performance, and other items that impact projects. - Manages scope change and scope creep, ensuring that all scopes changes and trends are quickly and properly identified and documented and communicated to project management for assessment and action. - Ensures that change orders are approved prior to the performance of work - Performs field observations and assessments, intermittently participate in pre-job and post-job briefings and participate in walk-downs of the planned work. - Conducts final inspections/walkdowns of project. - Other duties as assigned. ACCOUNTABILITIES:- Accountable to the Regional Manager, for executing the Roles and Responsibilities defined above - Accountabilities otherwise assigned by the Regional Manager as assigned and as defined in approved QMLP policies, programs, and procedures - Accountable to the Regional Manager for responsibilities relating to assigned cost accounts - Control and manage project activities in order to execute the responsibilities outlined in the Responsibilities section - Hold project team members accountable for performance and compliance to policies and procedures - Take actions necessary to safely meet project cost, technical, schedule, and quality, baselines QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Occupational Certification: - Graduate from both a secondary and a post-secondary institution - Trades Certifications are an asset - Gold Seal and Project Management Certificate would be an asset - Valid Driver's license class 5 or higher Experience:- 5 years related experience in civil construction and demolition management. - In evaluating options with respect to various technical, schedule, budget, regulatory, and financial constraints and for the purposes of guiding the abatement process - Possess required Asbestos and OSHA Certifications Knowledge:- Of environmental legislation, standards, and guidelines - Of the engineering design, tender, and construction management - Knowledgeable in the EPA and Health and Safety regulations relative to asbestos and mold remediation Abilities:- To analyze and evaluate complex problems and to plan and lead multi-disciplinary teams of technical and field operations personnel and external consultants to execute demolition solutions; - To prepare detailed bottom-up' construction cost estimates for the purposes of responding to specific tender requests and in preparing analogous or top-down' estimates for budgetary purposes. - To communicate project risks effectively with Clients and Stakeholders and to negotiate contract changes; - To work effectively with various computer software applications such as spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel or similar), project management and scheduling (Microsoft Project or similar), financial accounting (Explorer Contract Manager or similar); Personal Suitability:- Effective interpersonal relations - Independent and driven - Initiative - Thoroughness WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily in an office environment but requires frequent travel to work sites, to monitor the progress of work and to meet with Project Managers, Workers and Clients. * INTERESTED CANDIDATES SHOULD FORWARD RESUME TO INDICATING "OPERATIONS" IN SUBJECT LINE.* MYK62683JRDP
